Russia cancels hunting season over bird flu fears

Russian officials from the country’s far eastern Kamchatka Peninsula, have canceled the spring bird hunt because of bird flu fears.

The seasonal hunt, scheduled to start between April 26 and May 7 and end on May 5 to 14, depending on the area, was canceled on Monday according to the RIA Novosti news agency.

Kamchatka is a famous stopover for migrating birds from Japan, China and Korea, and local hunters shoot hundreds of geese and thousands of ducks every spring.
