Romania Confirms 25 Bird Flu Outbreaks, 26 More Suspected

Romanian minister of agriculture Gheorghe Flutur Sunday said that there are currently 25 bird flu-affected locations confirmed in counties Brasov, Bacau, Buzau, Vrancea, Covasna and Sibiu, while other suspect cases have been found in 26 locations.

Flutur said that they fined mayors of towns in Vrancea County, eastern Romania, where new bird flu outbreaks have been found, for not speeding up bird culling measures.

He said there is no risk of spreading the bird flu in Bucharest City even if final tests confirm that the virus has been found in districts 2 and 4.

Agriculture minister Gheorghe Flutur announced Friday evening that bird flu is suspected to have occurred in Bucharest in districts 2 and 4, at the outskirts of town.
