New Bird Flu Case Confirmed in Northeast Slovenia

The National Veterinary Institute informed the National Veterinary Administration (VURS) on Thursday [30 March] that laboratory tests on a swan found on 25 March in the Drava river near the Melje dam confirmed it was infected with the bird flu virus.

After receiving the results, the Disease Control Center again set up a quarantine zone around the city of Maribor after it was cancelled on 25 March and borders on the Koblerjev zaliv outbreak site. The surveillance area remains the same, VURS reported.

The Institute also informed VURS that the findings of the laboratory tests on dead chickens in the village of Hotinja vas near Maribor, showed the birds were not infected with any dangerous diseases including the h5n1 bird flu virus.
