More Bird flu cases found in Malaysia

A Malaysia veterinary official said on Thursday that the H5N1 strain of avian influenza was found in a wild bird and some dead chickens in the central state of Perak.

He also said that bird culling had begun in a 1 km (.6 mile) radius around both spots where the cases were detected

The wild bird was found in a nature reserve about 100 km (60 miles) away from a village where nine chicken deaths were reported on March 11, the official told Reuters. Samples taken from the dead chickens tested positive for H5N1, he added.

Malaysia’s first case of bird flu was reported in November of 2004, and just recently in February 2006.
