Japan halts poultry imports from China

Japan has temporarily stopped importing poultry from a company based in Shanghai after some products were found to have been processed not using the required method for an anti-bird flu measure, the agricultural ministry said Friday.

The Agricultural Ministry has asked China to report measures taken to address the current issue. All poultry products from the company will be disposed of to keep it out of the food chain.

The ministry said quarantine officials at Hakata port in Fukuoka Prefecture found unheated (Must be heated to an internal temperature of 60° C (140° F) maintained for 12 minutes maximum or the equivalent), products in a random check of two out of 191 containers carrying a total of 1,528 tons of poultry for grilled chicken.
