Death in Shanghai confirmed to be caused by H5N1 bird flu
A 29 year old woman from Shanghai in east China has died from bird flu, the Chinese Ministry of Health confirmed on Friday.
The victim, was a migrant worker in Shanghai. She showed bird flu symptoms of fever and pneumonia on March 13 and died on March 21.
The Shanghai Municipal Center for Disease Control and Prevention said that Li tested positive for H5N1. The municipal health department announced on Thursday that it was a suspected human case of bird flu.
Chinese authorities have put anyone who had close contact with the woman under medical observation. So far none have showed any symptoms associated with the bird flu virus.
It is still unknown how the victim was infected with the disease as there has been no reports on any outbreaks of bird flu among poultry in the city.
