Two Egyptian girls cured of human bird flu virus

Two Egyptian girls who had been treated for the human bird flu infection, recovered and were discharged from the hospital on Thursday, the official MENA (Middle East News Agency) reported.

The two sisters had been given the antiviral Tamiflu syrup for five days, and samples of their blood tested negative for the virus, Nasar al-Sayyed, a senior official of the Health Ministry was quoted as saying.

The two girls, from the governorate of Kafr-el-Sheikh, some 125 km (77.6 Miles) north of Cairo, were confirmed to have been infected by the deadly H5N1 strain of bird flu virus on Sunday after playing with infected poultry.

Egyptian health officials are trying hard to enforce preventive measures amid an increasing number of human infections with bird flu.
