Three new birds carry avian flu in Kuwait

KUWAIT, March 21 (KUNA)—Three new cases of bird flu have been discovered in poultry farms in Wafra, southern Kuwait, over the past 24 hours, said the national committee for combating bird flu on Wednesday.

It said in a statement that two turkeys and a chicken were found to carry the virus, thus bringing the number of animal cases to 34 in different parts of the country.

Results on humans samples of those in contact with birds have all returned negative, it said. Over the past three weeks, 354 samples from 313 people have been tested for the bird flu virus.

The committee said cases were still limited to poultry farms, stressing the importance of keeping birds caged in so as to limit their contact with migrating birds.

If bird flu cases were suspected, the committee asked residents and expatriates to call the emergency number, 777, or the hotline, 885020.
