Suspected human case of Bird flu in Denmark

Update:

Copenhagen - Denmark’s first suspected case of bird flu in a human proved false, a spokesman for the Imperial Hospital in Copenhagen said Saturday.
The result of an examination by specialists of a man who had been brought to the hospital during the night showed that he was not infected, the spokesman said.

A 25-year-old Dane (Denmark Citizen), is reported to have been transferred to Copenhagen’s Royal Hospital after testing positive for bird flu in a local clinic. If confirmed, this would be the first case of bird flu in humans in the Scandinavian country. The H5N1 strain of bird flu, its most aggressive form, has killed more than 100 people worldwide, according to the World Health Organization.

On the basis of blood tests in a local hospital in southern Denmark, the man was diagnosed with bird flu, and transferred urgently to the Royal Hospital, one of two hospitals in Denmark authorized to treat bird flu patients.

It is not known where the man may have contracted the virus.
