Russia to close poultry farms ignoring bird flu precautions
Agriculture Minister Alexei Gordeyev threatened to close poultry farms that do not take bird flu precautions recommended by veterinarians.
“It is important for us to keep off bird flu from poultry farms. We will be inspecting poultry farms and close the farms managed by unscrupulous directors,” he said.
“We cannot allow bird flu cases at one of the promising and growing industries of our agriculture,” Gordeyev said.
Russia has not had a single human bird flu case, let alone pan-epidemic, he said.
“Our key task is rapid reaction in conformity with veterinarian recommendations,” the minister said.
