Nine more cases of H5N1 confirmed in Denmark

Officials in Denmark confirmed nine more cases of H5N1 type bird flu on Monday, four days after the deadly strain was first detected in the country.

Reports from the Danish capital, Copenhagen, said tests on nine wild ducks found dead on the island of Aeroe show they were carrying the highly pathogenic strain of the virus.

Danish authorities established a protection zone on the small island, located about 170 kilometers ( 106 miles ) southwest of Copenhagen, when initial tests on Friday indicated that the birds were carrying the disease.
