New bird flu outbreak in Israel

Israeli authorities on Friday said that the bird flu virus has been detected in a Kibbutz (a farm run by many families), near the Israeli-Egyptian border, almost two weeks after the H5N1 strain of the virus was first found in the country.

A quarantine has been issued for the Kerem Shalom Farm and some of the surrounding areas. Authorities also said that culling will begin on 20,000 turkeys there Saturday.

This latest discovery brings the total of Israeli communities, infected with the bird flu virus, to eight.
