Indonesian man hospitalized with bird flu symptoms
JAKARTA, June 12 (Xinhua)—A 28-year-old man was admitted to the hospital in Indonesia’s Riau province after developing bird flu symptoms after he ate the meat of a sick chicken, local press said Tuesday.
Yatino, a plantation worker from Indragiri Hulu regency, has been at the bird flu care unit of the Arifin Achmad Hospital, in the provincial capital of Pekanbaru, since Monday.
He received treatment in a different hospital before health officials suspected him of developing bird flu symptoms, reported the national Antara news agency.
After an X-ray examination and laboratory test, “we detected clinical signs that he possibly has bird flu,” hospital staff Dr.Azizman Daad was quoted as saying.
Yatino, a father of one, used to grow chickens in his backyard and recently cooked and ate a sick chicken before he fell ill with high fever.
