Indonesia issuing free Tamiflu on bird flu fears

The Indonesia government said late Saturday that it is issuing free Tamiflu doses to people in The West Java Province where the latest human cases of the H5N1 strain of bird flu has been detected.

The Ministry of Health stated this was part of it’s response to the recent detection of nine suspected human cases of bird flu in West Java province. Along with the culling of birds in the area.

“So far we have killed hundreds of birds. Residents in the affected areas are being given the anti-viral drug Tamiflu free of charge as a preventative measure,” the statement said, quoting Komnas chief executive Bayu Krisnamurthi.
