Hong Kong reports three more birds infected with H5 avian influenza strain

The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region reported on Tuesday that three more dead birds have tested positive for the H5 strain of avian influenza just one day after authorities reported another confirmed H5 case in the region.

Preliminary testing of three dead birds collected from Hong Kong and in Kowloon has indicated suspected cases of H5 avian influenza, a spokesman for the department stated.

The infected birds were a Large-billed Crow and two Munia. Authorities are reminding members of the public to observe good personal hygiene, and are continuing to enforce a ban on backyard poultry.
