Eighth case of bird flu occurs near Austrian border

Prague- The eighth case of bird flu occurred in the Czech Republic, again in a dead swan, found at the pond Velka Cerna, South Bohemia, a few kilometres from the Austrian border, on Saturday, Josef Duben, spokesman for the State Veterinary Authority, said.

Tests have proved the presence of the H5 virus, Duben said. Veterinary measures are the same as in the previous cases, he added.

A 3 KM (1.8 mile) protection zone and a 10 km (6.2 mile) observation zone will be delineated around the spot, in which special measures will be applied, Duben said.

All previous cases of bird flu have been detected in South Bohemia.
