Azerbaijani girls sent home after bird flu treatment

Two people admitted to the Child clinical hospital in Baku Azerbaijani with bird flu symptoms on March 4 have been released after being given a clean bill of health.

One of the two girls aged 15 and 17 from Salyan, tested positive for the H5N1 bird flu virus by a bird flu reference lab in London, reporters were told by Samaya Mamedova of the Ministry of health.

Both girls were treated for the bird flu virus even though only one tested positive for the virus by a PCR lab in Baku. However samples from both girls were sent to the London lab for testing.

Ms Mamedova said that currently there are no other people with suspected bird flu symptoms in local hospitals.
