Avian influenza strikes two more Nigeria states

Health authorities in Nigeria have confirmed H5N1 strain of avian influenza has been identified in two more Nigeria states. Authorities also stated that there have been no reports of humans being infected with the virus in the affected areas.

Two northern states, Katsina and Zamfara, are now confirmed to have cases of H5N1 avian influenza, meaning that five of Nigeria’s 36 states have been affected.

Nigeria “has accordingly directed immediate stamping out of all the birds in the affected farms, the government said.

According to a statement released by authorities, samples from seven other states have so far come back negative for H5N1 avian influenza.
