Avian influenza found in German domestic birds

German officials stated on Thursday that the highly pathogenic H5N1 strain of avian influenza has been found in domestic flocks in the northern state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. This would be the first case of H5N1 in domestic flocks in the country.

The infected bird, a duck, has initially tested positive for the deadly H5N1 avian influenza virus, final results are expected Thursday afternoon.

So far more than 100 wild birds have already been confirmed to have the deadly H5N1 strain of avian influenza in the country.
