3 birds tested positive for H5N1 virus in HK

The Hong Kong Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) said Monday that the Japanese White-eye, the House Crow and the White-backed Munia found earlier in the city were confirmed to be H5N1 positive.

The carcass of the Japanese White-eye was collected by AFCD staff on Jan. 15 in San Po Kong while the House Crow and the White- backed Munia were found on Jan. 16 in Sham Shui Po and Mong Kok respectively. All these places are in the Kowloon.

A department spokesman reminded the public to observe good personal hygiene, by saying that they should avoid personal contact with wild birds and live poultry and clean their hands thoroughly after coming into contact with them.
