Bird flu breaks out near Hanoi
Authorities in Vietnam’s Ha Tay province announced Tuesday that some chickens from a farm just 20 kilometers(12 Miles) southeast of Hanoi tested positive for bird flu.
The tests were made after many chickens from the 550-bird farm in Thach That district died due to unknown reasons, according to the central Animal Health Department.
It is the second province in the north after Hai Duong to officially confirm a bird flu outbreak since Tet in mid-February.
This marks a return of the epidemic which swept across the nation in the early part of 2006.
But before Tet the government announced the epidemic had been rooted out.
The two northern provinces had recorded no cases of bird flu last year, local authorities said.
Vietnam’s northern neighbors Laos and China have recently discovered three people infected with the disease.
