Another human case of bird flu in Indonesia
An Indonesian health official confirmed on Saturday that another case of human bird flu has been found in the country. This comes one day after the country’s 23rd human death from the disease.
“A 23-year-old man was positive (for the disease) according to a local test. He is at Jamil Hospital in Padang, West Sumatra,” I Nyoman Kandun, Director General of Disease Control at Indonesia’s Health Ministry, told Reuters.
“He is alive and so far is in stable condition,” Kandun added, saying blood samples will be sent to a World Health Organization affiliated lab in Hong Kong for further tests. Such labs are considered definitive in determining flu cases.
Health officials are unsure yet whether or not the man had contact with any infected birds or animals.
